Emergency Dentistry

A dental emergency does not wait for a convenient time. If you are in Windsor and dealing with a toothache that will not settle, a broken or knocked-out tooth, a lost filling or crown, or swelling around a tooth, call The Dental Lounge on 519-250-1290. We hold room in the schedule each day for emergencies and will see you the same day whenever we can.

Walk-ins are welcome

You do not need to be an existing patient and you do not need an appointment. If you are in pain, come to 4140 Walker Rd and we will fit you in. Calling ahead on 519-250-1290 helps us get ready for you, but it is not required.

When we are open

• Monday and Tuesday: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
• Wednesday and Thursday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
• Friday, Saturday and Sunday: closed

Same-day emergency appointments are offered during those hours. We are closed Friday through Sunday, so if you are in pain over the weekend and it cannot wait until Monday morning, go to your nearest hospital emergency department. We would rather say that plainly than have you sit in pain waiting for a door that is not going to open.

What to do before you get here

• Knocked-out adult tooth. Pick it up by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it gently with milk or saline rather than tap water, and do not scrub it. If you can, place it back in the socket; if not, keep it in milk. Get to us within the hour if at all possible.
• Knocked-out baby tooth. Do not put it back in. Replanting a baby tooth can damage the adult tooth developing above it. Keep your child comfortable, control any bleeding with gentle pressure on clean gauze, and call us so we can check the area.
• Broken or chipped tooth. Rinse with warm water, keep any pieces, and hold a cold compress against the outside of the cheek to limit swelling.
• Toothache. Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently on either side of the tooth to clear anything trapped. Do not hold aspirin against the gum.
• Lost filling or crown. Keep the crown if you still have it and avoid chewing on that side.
• Swelling or an abscess. Call us right away. If the swelling is spreading towards your eye or throat, or you are having trouble breathing or swallowing, go to the emergency department instead of waiting for us.

Preventing the injuries we see most

A lot of the chipped and knocked out teeth we treat come from contact sport. A custom fitted mouthguard is made from a mould of your own teeth, so it sits closely, is more comfortable to wear and is far more likely to actually stay in during play. We make them here at The Dental Lounge for adults and for children, and it takes one short appointment. If someone in your family plays hockey, football, basketball, rugby or does martial arts, ask us about one before the season starts.

Cost, insurance and CDCP

Cost is the reason a lot of people in Windsor put off dealing with a tooth that is hurting, so here is where we stand:

• We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
• We bill most major insurance plans directly, so you are not paying the full amount up front and waiting to be reimbursed.
• We offer payment plans when the treatment needed is larger than the moment allows.

Tell us at the front desk what coverage you have and we will work out what you will actually pay before any treatment starts.

We see emergency patients from across Windsor and Essex County. Most come from Windsor itself, Tecumseh and LaSalle, and we regularly see people driving in from Amherstburg, Essex, McGregor and Belle River. You do not need a referral and you do not need to be an existing patient.
