About Dental Cleanings Service
Regular oral hygiene appointments are essential—not only for a healthy smile, but also for your overall well-being. At The Dental Lounge, our experienced team creates a personalized cleaning and recall schedule based on your unique needs and oral health status.
Professional dental cleanings go beyond what brushing and flossing can achieve, removing stubborn plaque and tartar to keep your teeth and gums healthy. With proper home care between visits, these appointments can help prevent gum disease (gingivitis/periodontitis) entirely, or stabilize and manage it to prevent recurrence. Every recall appointment also includes a thorough oral cancer screening, along with a dental examination to check for cavities or other concerns. Based on our findings, we create a personalized care plan tailored to your unique needs.
For some patients, a deep cleaning—also called scaling and root planing—may be recommended. This treatment is designed for those with signs of gum disease and removes plaque and bacteria from deep beneath the gum line, where regular cleaning can’t reach. Deep cleanings can stop gum disease from progressing, help prevent tooth loss, and even reduce risks linked to overall health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and more.
We typically recommend professional cleanings every six months, though some patients may benefit from more frequent visits. Skipping cleanings can allow harmful buildup to progress, potentially affecting not just your smile, but the success of other treatments such as whitening or clear aligners.
Your comfort and health are always our top priorities—so whether it’s a routine visit or advanced periodontal care, we’re here to keep your smile looking and feeling its best.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Most patients benefit from a cleaning every 6 months. However, depending on your oral health, we may recommend a more personalized schedule—such as every 3–4 months—to keep your gums and teeth healthy.
Do dental cleanings hurt?
Most cleanings are comfortable. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, let us know—we can adjust our technique and offer options to make the experience more pleasant.
Why can't I just brush and floss at home?
Brushing and flossing are essential, but they can’t remove all the plaque and tartar that build up over time—especially in hard-to-reach areas. Professional cleanings remove this buildup to help prevent cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.
What's the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular cleaning focuses on removing plaque and tartar above the gum line. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) is recommended if you have gum disease—it removes buildup below the gum line and smooths tooth roots to help gums heal.
What else happens during a hygiene appointment?
In addition to cleaning your teeth, we check for signs of cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. If needed, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan to address any concerns.
Will my cleaning whiten my teeth?
Cleanings can remove surface stains, making teeth look brighter. However, for a more noticeable change, professional teeth whitening is recommended.
